Come cozy up in the Art Lounge at Femme Fatale DC Pop-Up Store for story time as The Omi Collective talks up the ladies of legend.
From witches to princesses, heroines to evil stepmothers, monsters who turn into beautiful maidens and vice versa, female archetypes dominate folk tales across the world and inform art, film, music, and advertising today.
Join Ellie Yanagisawa, Haley M., and Sanam Emami as we tell stories, explore archetypes and discuss how they inform our art. We're also inviting you to bring your own story to tell! Drop your name in a hat at the beginning of the event, and we'll draw them out at random. Come early for a special tarot reading by Michelle from Fire & Bloom read your Tarot cards.
Featured Story Tellers: Haley Mckey
Haley Mckey's artwork is inspired by various female archetypes of the "wild woman", especially the wild wolf woman. Wolves are often portrayed as our antagonists, but their devotion to family, fierce love for their young and social bonds make them far more like us than we may realize. McKey depicts her wolf women both fantastical and contradictory. They’re sexy and slightly frightening, tender friends and eerie monsters. Free of judgment, they drink, smoke, laugh, hug each other and float through space with jackal heads, claws, antlers and skull masks.
Haley has two murals and nine pieces of original artwork currently on display at Femme Fatale D.C
