A Perfect Circle: Tea Ceremony

  • Femme Fatale DC 3409 Connecticut Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

Join Japanese ceremonial tea master and calligraphy artist Mochi (@mochiakadorogame) for a meditative exploration of big brush calligraphy and the symbolism of the circle.

In this intimate workshop, Mochi will introduce the traditional tools used in large-scale brush calligraphy and share a brief history of Japanese kanji and hiragana writing. Together, we will explore the symbolic and physical meaning of circles across art, culture, and nature while learning the mechanics of drawing a large circular form with a single brushstroke.

Mochi will also share insights from Japanese Zen practice and how meditation informs artistic expression.

The experience includes a 10-minute guided meditation to cultivate stillness and calm. From that quiet space, each participant will create their own circular symbol in one continuous brushstroke. Your circle might represent the moon, an eye, an egg, a clock, a wheel, a coin—or anything meaningful to you.

Mochi will demonstrate the technique and provide guidance as each participant creates their piece.

This workshop is about presence, intention, and the beauty of a single mark.
