D.I.Y. in the District: A Two-Day Festival

As part of the fall exhibit at MLK Library, D.I.Y. in the District: Celebrating D.C.'s Artist-Run Spaces, Rhizome DC presents a two-day celebration of DC’s independent arts scene.

When: Saturday, October 18 & Sunday, October 19
Where: MLK Library

Enjoy cross-genre sound, storytelling, movement, artmaking, and more—highlighting Black, queer, and immigrant contributions. Sunday features:

  • 1 PM | Healing Sounds – Gongs & percussion with Naoco Wowsugi

  • 2 PM | Mapping D.C.’s DIY Memory Archive – Contribute to an evolving cultural map

  • 3 PM | Open Mic & Improvised Performance: Sonic Futures

  • 1–5 PM | Art Build/Sewing Workshop – Create quilt squares for an interactive map

Presented alongside the exhibit, on view through Dec. 7. Supported by the DC Public Library Foundation.

I can also make a newsletter-ready, 2–3 sentence version that really pops if you want. Do you want me to do
